Magnetic capitol in my eyes

This will be a very personal, subjective description. You should know that I'm not a fan of big metropolises, and I came to the capital and the largest city in Ukraine. I wasn't a lonely tourist, lost in in the crowd, which greatly facilitated me getting to know this area. But I found quite nice places in this big-city noise.

Good wishes

Kiev loves monuments. I can say - literally - huge buildings, also a river, large parks, wide streets with speeding drivers and a sleeping district with lots of apartments, thousands!

Sleeping district on Sunday noon
Architecture - I liked the amazing finesse of buildings most. Some looked as if the architect was surprised that his apartment building was too small, so from time to time he decided to "add" another cubature. If it were not too boring, the fragments had different shapes: octagonal or more round. Example below.

Looks like built-in crown on the roof

Also, I paid attention to diversity: the combination of houses from the beginning of the 20th century against the background of an industrial skyscraper - why not? To make it more fun, you could come across graffiti from time to time.

Contrast?

Mother Motherland (Rodina-Mat)* is a perfect example of monument. It has a height of 102 meters with a plinth. Interestingly, you can come to her mind to admire the panorama of the city, but ... I was not given it, although we tried it three times.
1. I had a dress and you need pants because of special braces.
2. It was Saturday, the queue was too long.
3. It was Sunday and it got too warm, so my mother's head was overheated. But as my friend said, I will have (at least one) reason to go back to Kiev.

*I did not even take a picture of her, since she was not kind to me! But you can goole it easly ;).

2nd Combination old and new
Another unforgettable place was Landscape Avenue about which I could write poems. A playground for children with sculptures, stylized nooks and crannies from Alice in Wonderland is impressive. This is a small operation in total: the construction of funny sculptures lined with mosaics but makes a huge impression. A park where you can drink wine and relax after a hard week. It was one of the most pleasant places. Two days later I found another park next to the university building - it also had its own unique character.
I think that every city - especially as big as the capital - needs green enclaves and it goes very well in Kiev.

Charming smiling

Creepy but still charming

Family of lamps (you can see even children! next to)

Crazy colour of uni building

Modern sculpture in the park
Intriguing elements, small constructions, unique mosaics or futuristic shop displays could be found in the center as well as in the metro stations. I did not feel threatened either on the street or in the 24/7 store after 10 PM. OK, maybe I did not expect additional control at the entrance to the museum, on the airport or square, to see one of the most interesting buildings - House with Chimaeras - just because it is located on the territory belonging to the authorities. I did not even see that the second name is "Horodecki House", after the Polish architect of this building.

Outside of the building: cafeteria on the top

Quite unexpectedly thing: Ukrainians like coffee! They drink coffee on the run, take-out, and places with coffee are practically on every corner.
For me, as a person addicted to postcards, Ukraine was a real paradise! I found some really great copies for little money (although I think I spent half my pocket money on them). It is also worth getting acquainted with the activities of the most popular artist in the country. Sweet baby faces from Eugenia Gapchinska are found on postcards, candy boxes, bags and other souvenirs.

Just Jesus with unicorn

Some people wonder how to start traveling - I must admit that before that I would not be ready for such an "action". I did not have a ready passport, and the disadvantage of traveling to Ukraine is the compulsion to have it. The gentleman at the office said "there is no chance" of getting it in less than three weeks. I waited a week! On Tuesday, I went to pick up the document. On Thursday I was on my way to the airport. What an unexpected end to the holiday! I am grateful for the support, great fun and preparation of the entire trip plan for my Ukrainian guide and friend. Waiting for another adventures.

^_^

First one!

PS I know that the quality of photos from my phone does not knock your knees, but forgive him, he survived a lot.

Catch the moment!

Projects, volunteering, international internships - possibilities for us, young people

Our leader, Adam

Honestly, I didn't think about it too long. I saw the advertisement on Facebook, I had some free time and the desire to spend week in the Polish mountains. It's so simple. 10 minutes and I was in the team (ok, usually you need to send an application / CV in English).
If you hear the sound of a drill every day, Poronin in Poland is the best direction for you.
The sheep will wake you there. We had a lot of tasks, that's a fact. Many people think that such exchanges are one big lie (Let me explain. I'm talking about projects financed from the EU budget or courtesy of other organizations - that's why some people think that is ONLY fun). Sometimes it is, but in our case we had a plan filled to the brim.

Lovely people and my weirdo face in the middle

Awesome happening based on Malevich's arto works

Discussions, painting, creating. We did performances, presentations. We talked about the band Voo Voo with Waglewski at the forefront and his cooperation with the Ukrainian band Haydamaky. Folk and ethnic inspirations are great. We made posters for the quote "music as a key to the universe" - even I painted, although I have no talent.
What I liked best was the happening inspired by the work of Malevich, a Polish-Russian-Ukrainian artist. I am full of admiration for the idea and performance in Zakopane's Krupówki. Tourists could join the creation of the work, and then take a picture in specially created holes on the poster. Penetration through a work of art. Another performance showed the intricate relationship between the two countries and I hope to see it one day in the theater. Everyone gave a high level of acting and understood the role well.

Performance about polish - ukrainian relationship

Of course, the rush of tasks has pissed me off a bit but on the other hand we also had time just to have fun. I do not remember when I laughed so much and just felt myself. Not that in the city I can not be myself, but there I felt just relaxed (that's why I recommend it to everyone). We had the most fun with the translation of words that sound similar in our native languages, but they have completely different connotations.

Adults or still children?

In addition to Erasmus in Croatia, I didn't have the opportunity to participate in this type of short-term exchanges. Some people have worked hard to release a movie of our whole week. Others used wooden charm, a truly highlander cottage (including me). The Polish evening, typical of similar expeditions, ended with a dance until sunrise. The neighbors from Ukraine presented for us a real celebration of a wedding party with a quite real young couple. They showed us the usual games, music and rituals.

If you or your friend would like to start, but are afraid - just do it.

a) The level of English was really different, depending on the person, it's always a stupid excuse for me  (I mean: give up because I can not speak English). You are in a group, so there will always be someone who can help you find a word. And if you do not feel well in conversations, this is a great opportunity to improve your language. Believe me that I was really blocked a year ago when it comes to loose conversation, and now I want the other person to just understand me well.

Group photo has to be

b) The projects are also different, participants usually come from many places in Europe. It is really good chance to meet people from all over Europe, because you choose a project that interests you, so you meet people with similar interests. You will find something for yourself. Ecology, culture, politics, whatever, anywhere. If you only have an impression, a bit of a desire, follow your intuition. To be honest, quite unexpectedly, I met someone who surprised me and I hope that we will be able to meet again soon.

And another one

c) Honestly and really, if you hit the right people, you can destroy all the stereotypes and generalizations you have in your head. The only thing you can regret is that you're only there for a week, a month, a half a year... ultimately, it's always too short.

Lovely people

Part of the article - a reportage I wrote to the official folder:

We met to build. Not literally. Young people from Poland and Ukraine spent a week together in the picturesque Villa Austryjok in the heart of Podhale. Thanks to financing by Polish-Ukrainian organizations, we had the opportunity to exchange experiences about our customs, stereotypes and conflicts. Together, we were wondering how to build good relations between our countries, where culture and art became a bridge. Participants are young activists involved in spreading awareness among the community about the broadly understood culture, informal education. We experienced this time in a productive way, building symbolic bridges and relationships between us.

I am writing this note, because I was very inspired by this trip, these people, and besides, I wanted to throw some photos taken by one of the talented participant, Ksenia. She did good job.
I respect the fact that people from Ukraine really wanted to create a good team with us, share their experiences and skills.

Lovely people

PS: Most often, part or all of it is paid for with EU funds, so you have to pay money for the journey, which will be refunded later - It's important info for low-cost lovers like me.

Dzisiejsza akcja należała do tych spontanicznych. A jaki temat?

  • Parasol! Cały tydzień jest pochmurnie, chociaż nie pada. W końcu postanawiam zostawić go w domu - leje.
Przebieżka do domu murowana.
  • Kolejna rzecz, kobiecy dylemat – podpaski.

  • Zapalniczka.

Bread House Cafe  / kokosowa tapioka i smoothie owocowe

Ul. Fosa Staromiejska 2: pachnąco, zdrowo, domowa atmosfera, sporo książek i moje ulubione zielone kanapy

Post Coffice / PO CO  / pyszna kawusia i super herbaciany dodatek do posmakowania, muskany azotem

Ul.

13.10.2017

Remember, 13th Friday is depens of you.
*
Pamiętaj, piątek 13go zależy od Ciebie

Few things about me in english:
Critic of art but I don't prefer this naming.
Almost career counselor.
Almost socio-therapeutic.
This is my first serious attempt with create note in english, so feel free to text me if you find some mistakes. Probably I'll make plenty of stupid linguistic's fails. Of course, I will glad if you would like just talk with me! I'm totally freak of art so I'm super-happy when I can feel specific climate of country like an architecture, museums, murals, people's attitudes, old little coffeehouse. Of course, I'd love to try all of delicious dishes! I appreciate people who have heads with full of ideas and open-minded. I need to say it another time. Ealier, I was worried about level of my english but now I'm staying in Croatia (Erasmus programme) and this is the best reason for leaving my comfort zone. Obviously, I'll be grateful if you can teach me something new! Well, I can tell you stories about my bad luck. I lost my ID card at the airport in UK, I can hit the glass door or dyed piece of my own eyebrow. After week in Croatia my phone is out of order and even more. So, yeah, I'm a little bit messy person. Of course, I have better side also.
I will try to explain something in the field of art, art therapy, culture of Poland. I'd love to have my own cafe and jumping with the parachute. Will be wonderful if I join my future occupation with my hobby.

# in progress

Prawie socjoterapeutka.
Prawie doradca zawodowy.

W toku.
